Pink Floyd Release New ‘8-Tracks’ Album

By Alex McFerren

Progressive rock giants Pink Floyd have released a new compilation album with some unusual tracks included.

Pink Floyd have been around for over six decades now, releasing groundbreaking progressive rock albums throughout their entire career, and now they have brought us a different release than what we are used to.

8-Tracks is a new compilation release, the latest in a long line of Floyd compilation albums including titles like Relics, Echoes and the intriguingly titled A Collection of Great Dance Songs. This new one includes hits such as ‘Comfortably Numb’ from The Wall and ‘Money’ from The Dark Side Of The Moon.

There are two tracks that stand out though. ‘Pigs On The Wing‘ (Animals) and ‘Wot’s…Uh the Deal’ (Obscured By Clouds), are two songs that aren’t very prominent in their back catalogue, especially when compared to the other tracks on the album.

In the case of ‘Pigs On The Wing’, the version included here is a rarity, different to the Animals album version. It was previously only available on 8-track cassette, an extinct format marketed in the seventies, and features an additional guitar solo, courtesy of session musician Snowy White.

It is a good compilation for people looking to get into the bulk of the band’s work from 1971-79, arguably their most prominent years.
