Agatha All Along – review

By Aqeel Khan

Looking for something to watch this Halloween? Agatha All Along has you covered.

I know what everyone’s thinking: “Gah! Not ANOTHER terrible Marvel TV show”, and originally I, too, was sceptical. However, once I decided to sit down and watch this show, I couldn’t help but be hooked.

Set in the style of a “budding cop with a spooky twist”, this funny yet creepy show might just be Marvel’s saving grace. We start up where WandaVision left off, with Agatha still under control of the Scarlett Witch’s hex. It’s unknown how long Agatha – played by the fab Kathryn Hahn – has been under the influence of this curse but when she meets a mysterious boy (Joe Locke), everything changes.

With Agatha back to her usual mischievous self, she decides to attempt the ‘Witches Road’… a magical test that grants the winner a wish of their choosing,  in order to reclaim her power. The only problem? Agatha needs help. She HATES people. With her new ally in tow (whom she’s nicknamed “teen”), Agatha sets off to find herself a coven.

Unfortunately, Agatha has created a name for herself in the Witches’ community. Could be the fact she’s killed hundreds in her long life… we may never know. Regardless, she manages to find herself a coven. Disgraced tarot reader Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), power-bound potion mistress Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), haunted blood witch Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn) and of course… just to make everything more awkward… Agatha’s sociopathic ex, Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza).

Each of them have secrets they are willing to die to protect and with everyone wanting to reach the end of the Road, will they triumph.. or will their hatred of Agatha destroy them all, proving it was… Agatha All Along?
