Cage Warriors 205 in Glasgow was chaos in the best and worst ways, but somehow the event still delivered one of the most entertaining regional MMA cards of the year.
What looked like a stacked night on paper nearly fell apart before the cage door even closed, yet the Scottish crowd carried the event from start to finish.
Instead, Glasgow turned it into a proper fight-night atmosphere. The Braehead Arena crowd stayed loud all evening, and the Scottish fighters absolutely fed off that energy.
Listen to the audio below to find out why the main and co-main event were cancelled.
Aidan Stephen stepped into the unexpected main-event slot and produced a composed performance against Josh Abraham, earning a unanimous decision victory in front of a roaring home crowd.
Stephen said, “It was a moment he could not pass up and he described it as a “Dream come true”,
“To main event a Cage Warriors show is such a dream however, it doesn’t stop here I will keep going until I am champion, it doesn’t matter who is next they are all getting it.”
It wasn’t a wild five-round war, but it was technical, disciplined, and exactly the kind of performance Cage Warriors loves to showcase before fighters make the jump to bigger promotions.
Jack Foote was arguably the standout performer of the night. His second-round submission victory over Eoin McDonald was a statement to the fans, and he fought like someone desperate to steal the spotlight after the card reshuffle.
I spoke to Foote about what he expected from his opponent McDonald on fight night,
“My opponent took the fight on short notice so I knew he would be game; I could just tell by the look in his eyes that he had nothing to lose.
McDonald is very well rounded, but I was confident that wherever the fight ended up I would be a step ahead.”
Above is a video of Foote training ahead of his highly anticipated matchup.
Norbert Pietrzak also made a statement with a brutal first-round stoppage that instantly woke the crowd up.
It was not only the main card that delivered the prelims also gave us nothing but violence.
The notable performer for me was Jamie “Choir boy” McGowan whose KO win over Taylor Sullivan sent a statement to the MMA community in only his second pro fight.
Mcgowan spoke about how it felt to get a finish in his hometown in only his second pro fight,
“Getting the finish in front of my home crowd is something I could only have dreamt about,
Fighting in front of my home crowd was enough but getting the finish just topped it off.”
Scottish MMA fans certainly have a bright future to look forward to.
Cage Warriors continues to prove why it remains one of the best breeding grounds in MMA. The production may not match the UFC, but the intensity, hunger, and unpredictability often make these events more exciting and this event epitomised that.
