overpass @ O2 Victoria Warehouse, Manchester (09/05/2026)

By Izzy Hurcum

You know a band is on the brink of something massive when people are calling their support slot on a tour a ‘co-headline’ tour. And for overpass, a four-piece indie band from Birmingham, that’s exactly what happened when they supported The Royston Club on their most recent UK tour.

Walking out onto the stage to a roar of cheers, overpass are greeted with an eager crowd as they kick their set off with the lively ‘Union Station’. The energetic guitar riff of the song’s intro drives the band into a burst of noise which gets the crowd singing along, especially during the catchy chorus. ‘Take It or Leave It’ keeps the crowd singing, the hit track from their 2025 EP, Dependent, getting everyone dancing and jumping as the band transition it straight into their latest single, ‘Is This Real’, earning a massive cheer from the sold-out venue.

The band’s performance of ‘Beautiful’ is nothing short of beautiful, if you’ll pardon the pun! Between Max Newbold’s stunning vocals and guitarist Elliot Rawlings’ incredible guitar riff throughout, the crowd’s attention is captivated on the performance in front of them.

‘3AM’ is arguably their biggest song, a fan favourite for sure, and it shows. Fans are singing louder than Newbold during the chorus, pints fly into the air, people sit on their friends’ shoulders, and it becomes difficult to remember that overpass are simply the support act. Closing out their set is ‘Heaven’, an indie ballad all about the push-and-pull feeling in a relationship, leaving the crowd swaying and singing gently along to Newbold’s stunning falsetto vocals.

If overpass aren’t already on your radar as a band to watch over the next few years, they should be. With their debut album, Everywhere, Always, on the verge of release, only time will tell what’s in store for overpass.

Music journalists Izzy Hurcum, Freya Hoare, and Leah Simons discuss whether overpass could be the next big indie band.
