Daredevil: Born Again had a lot to prove. After years away from the screen, and with the original Netflix series still one of Marvel’s most highly praised shows, expectations were always going to be high. The good news is that Born Again does not try to replace what came before. Instead, it works as a strong sequel that builds on the original series while giving Matt Murdock a new kind of challenge
What made the original Daredevil stand out was its darker tone. It was more grounded than most Marvel projects, with brutal fight scenes, strong performances and a version of Hell’s Kitchen that felt dangerous and real. Born Again keeps much of that same energy, but this time the focus is less on Matt as a vigilante and more on Matt as a man trying to move forward.

That is what makes this series feel different. Charlie Cox returns with a more worn-down version of Matt Murdock, and the show spends more time exploring the cost of everything he has been through. He is still the same character fans know, but this version feels older, more measured and more conflicted. It gives the series a different edge from the original, showing a side of Matt that feels more personal than before.
My review of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
At the same time, Born Again understands what made the Netflix show work. It brings Matt back to the streets, back to the violence and back to the moral conflict that made the original series so compelling. The show feels closer in tone to the Netflix run than many fans expected, and that is one of its biggest strengths. Rather than trying to turn Daredevil into a cleaner, safer version of himself, Born Again leans back into the grit that made the character stand out in the first place.
That balance is what makes the series work so well. It feels familiar without feeling repetitive. It respects the original series, but it also gives Matt room to grow. This is not just a repeat of what came before. It is a continuation, and a strong one.

The action is sharp, the performances are strong and the tone feels much more confident than some of Marvel’s recent television work. Most importantly, Born Again remembers that Daredevil works best when he is caught between two worlds: lawyer and vigilante, faith and violence, justice and revenge. That conflict remains at the centre of the show, and it is what gives the series its weight.
For longtime fans, Daredevil: Born Again feels like a proper return. It brings Matt Murdock back to his roots while showing a more mature side of the character. It is darker, more focused and far closer to what made the Netflix series so effective than many expected.
If this is the direction Marvel plans to take with Daredevil, it is a promising one. And with Frank Castle back in the picture, the future already looks even more exciting. After Born Again, the thought of seeing the Punisher again — especially in Spider-Man: Brand New Day — is more than enough to be excited about.
