PREMIER LEAGUE FINAL GAME WEEK PREVIEW

Written by JAY KENNEDY.

The Premier League season finally concludes this Sunday after another exciting and unpredictable season. Here is a quick preview of every game doing down this Sunday:

Now-confirmed runners-up Manchester City will sign out their season by hosting newly crowned Europa League victors Aston Villa. City’s draw away at Bournemouth on Tuesday confirmed Arsenal’s first Premier League title in 22 years. It is the end of several eras at City this Sunday, with John Stones, Bernardo Silva and Pep Guardiola all departing the Sky-Blue club this summer. As for Villa, they outclassed Freiburg 3-0 in Istanbul on Wednesday, their first European trophy since 1982. Unai Emery’s side already had Champions League football sealed before the final, and they will seal 4th place with a point or better.

High flying Brighton will host Manchester United at the AMEX. Brighton currently occupies 7th place but come into this game off the back of a 1-0 defeat away at in-form Leeds. This will be Michael Carrick’s final match as caretaker boss, as he has been upgraded to permanent boss for the 3rd place side. The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 5 after defeating already-safe Nottingham Forest 3-2 last weekend, with Bruno Fernandes tying the all-time assist record in one season.

Elsewhere, Fulham will host Newcastle United at Craven Cottage, with the Cottagers and Magpies both sat on 49 points, still aiming to reach 8th place to seal a Conference League spot. Fulham left Molineux with a disappointing point to Wolves, with ever-growing fears that Marco Silva will leave once his contracts expires at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Newcastle got a much-needed win against West Ham at home, with Nick Woltemade netting his first league goal since December.

Next up, Spurs host Everton in a must-win game for the Lilywhites, as they are in a scrap with West Ham for the last relegation spot. Spurs know that they must get a good result against the Toffees, especially after a disappointing 2-1 loss away at Chelsea on Tuesday night. For David Moyes’s side, they are coming into this game with their European hopes extinguished, after a 3-1 loss to Sunderland at home.

Liverpool host Europe-hunting Brentford at Anfield. Liverpool currently sits in 5th place, knowing a point will guarantee them a Champions League spot. Brentford can also reach Europe if results go their way, as they occupy 9th and are only out of European spots on goal difference. A win for Arne Slot’s reds will feel like a must, especially after their 2-1 loss to Aston Villa on Friday, which resulted in Mo Salah expressing his true thoughts about the current state of the team on social media.

Next up is the clash between the two already-relegated sides in Burnley and Wolves. Burnley’s defeat at Arsenal eventually led to the Gunners lifting the title after Man City’s draw at Bournemouth. This will be the last game in charge of caretaker boss Mike Jackson, who is in his second spell in charge. Wolves head to Turf Moor off the back of a point at home to Fulham. Despite their disappointment all season, Mateus Mane showed his light of positivity with his third goal for the club, with the youngster committing to the club next season, despite heavy links of a departure.

Already safe Nottingham Forest will host European-confirmed Bournemouth at the City Ground. Forest come into this game after losing 3-2 away to Manchester United, despite in-form Morgan Gibbs White netting a brace. The Englishman made it 14 goals for the Premier League season with his two goals, as his name continues to swirl around for a World Cup call up. Bournemouth’s draw on Tuesday night to Man City means that they have confirmed Europe for the first time in their 127-year history, in Andoni Iraola’s last home game as boss.

Arguably one of the biggest games in West Ham’s history takes place at the London Stadium, as their survival is up for stake against Leeds. The Hammers need to win and hope Spurs lose to confirm safety. The Hammer’s wounds deepened after their 3-1 loss to Newcastle last game. Meanwhile, Leeds have had opposite fortunes, with a current eight game unbeaten run in the league and coming into this game after a late win over Brighton, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin netting his 14th of the league season since joining in the summer.

Sunderland’s first season back in the Premier League after 8 years has been nothing short of impressive, with them moving past 50 points after their win over Everton last Sunday. Regis Le Bris has been shortlisted for manager of the season after leading the Black Cats to an impressive campaign, which can still result in Europe. As for Chelsea, they got a much-needed win vs Spurs on Tuesday, after losing to Man City three days earlier in the FA Cup final. Chelsea will conclude this season with Xabi Alonso entering the hot seat for the next campaign.

Finally, newly crowned champions Arsenal will travel to Conference League finalists Crystal Palace. The Gunners will be hoping to add another trophy to their campaign this season, with a Champions League Final showdown against PSG on the horizon. As for Palace, Oliver Glasner will be hoping to go out on a high with a Conference League final awaiting against Rayo Vallecano on the 27th of May.

This has been another wild and crazy season, with the future looking bright for another incredible season.
