New era at Chester underway with first signing announcement

Chester FC have announced the signing of veteran striker Jacob Hazel. The 32-year-old has joined the Seals from Boston United on a one-year deal, and will be hoping to bring both experience and goals to the Deva Stadium.

The signing is new manager Phil Parkinson’s first at Chester, with many more players expected to come through the door this summer.

Hazel, who has played nine times for St. Kitts and Nevis, came through Chesterfield’s academy and has an array of different teams, including Mickleover Sports, Frickley Athletic (where he has had two spells, Whitby Town and Darlington, before joining Boston in 2023, helping them gain promotion to the National League in 23/24.

His father is former footballer Des Hazel, who notably played for Rotherham United.

An out-and-out striker is something that Chester have needed for some time now, since the departure of Charlie Caton to Accrington Stanley last summer.

Manager Phil Parkinson is delighted with his first signing, with nothing but praise for Hazel. “Jacob joins us from Boston and comes in with a strong goalscoring record at National League North level and above,” he said, “he’s powerful, aggressive, quick, and gives us a real attacking threat.”

Parkinson has already hinted at more signings in the near future, the inevitable considering the number of players that have left the club: “We’re well underway with recruitment for next season and working hard behind the scenes to build a squad capable of competing at the very top end of this league.”
