Boards Of Canada have been out of the spotlight for over a decade now, their ambient electronic tunes being limited to their first four albums. Now, fans finally have a new release with Inferno.

The first single from the album, ‘Introit/Frequency At 1420 MHz’, was met with positive reviews. Fans were excited for new material for a long time, and now the new album has filled the void. It consists of 18 tracks, so there are plenty of songs to make up for lost time.

The duo have been active since 1987, creating a great blend of sampling and trip-hop electronic beats. They rarely do interviews and have only performed live a handful of times over the years.

The album contains some classic sounding tracks such as ‘All Reason Departs’ and ‘Into The Magic Land‘ which both capture the spirit and sound of those early Boards Of Canada tracks.

The album borders on dystopian, as the main theme of the album appears to be a threatening future, with some of the samples used detailing a “great war”. There are dark times ahead in Inferno. And yet, even with the sombre undertones, the Scottish brothers manage to create a great album, making the 13 year wait worth it.

Inferno is out now, and available from music retail stores all over the country.
